Turbulence: Moments of Release and Reflection
The Turbulence Series explores the quiet intensity of change, those fleeting moments when the world feels unsettled, yet full of possibility. Each painting captures the ebb and flow of emotion, the movement of natural forces, and the subtle shifts in light and colour that mirror life’s own rhythms.
These works are about moments: pauses where we can notice the impermanence of difficulty, the way challenges rise and fall, and the quiet spaces that emerge between them. The marks, washes, and textures in each painting reflect both energy and stillness, inviting viewers to pause and connect with the sensations of their own inner landscapes.
Creating this series was often a process of responding to movement, letting paint flow, settle, and overlap naturally, echoing the way emotions and experiences unfold over time. There is a delicate balance in each work between tension and release, motion and calm, reminding us that even in turbulence there is space to breathe.
One piece, Listening to the Storm, was painted exactly as the title suggests, during a day when the weather mirrored that unsettled energy. For me, it became a meditation on those moments in life when things feel difficult, but you know, even if the timing is uncertain, that the storm will pass. Observing stormy paintings like this can be unexpectedly restorative, allowing us to channel and release emotions, and to find a sense of quiet resolution within the intensity.
The Turbulence Series as a whole invites reflection, contemplation, and the experience of holding space for movement, change, and stillness all at once. Displayed together or individually, these paintings offer moments of pause and calm, a gentle reminder that turbulence, in nature or in life, eventually softens into clarity.
