This painting took its time. I reworked it again and again, adding layers, wiping things back and sometimes wondering whether it would ever come together. Colours disappeared beneath others, textures emerged, and parts that didn't seem to be working slowly became part of the whole.
Then, almost without noticing, something shifted.
The finished painting moves from deep blue into a rich orange, like the sky changing towards sunset. Up close, the layers become breaks in the clouds, with traces of what came before still visible beneath the surface.
It reminds me that some things need a little patience. Not everything makes sense while you're in the middle of it. Sometimes you just have to keep going and see what happens.
